Facebook Friends' Comments

Posted below are entries from my Facebook friends, who responded to a couple of postings about my medical status on February 9 and 10, 2016. My medical status from those days is perhaps too personal to post for all the world to see here on my blog. But I wanted to preserve and save the supportive comments from my friends, who have truly demonstrated their compassionate support for me.

John Mercer I don't know what to say Monte, but I hope the Doctors can help you make the right decisions. You are right that quality of life is important. It breaks my heart to know what you are going through, but please know that so many people are in your corner. I'm praying for you.
Chris Owens Monte, i know you already know this but if there is anything you need or if there is anything Anna and i can do for you let us know please.. We love you....
Tuni Dykstra I hope the Doc has some answers for you! Still praying!
Larry Muirhead i will be praying for you Monte. keep us informed..
Julie Filarski I agree with John's comments. I'm sorry you have to make such tough choices. It is about quality of life in my opinion. I'm glad you have family near by to help you.
Tim Chuey Still keeping you in my prayers. Your quality of life is important.
Mary Esther Hart Big "python hug", quality of life is everything.
Deneen Muirhead Praying for you Monte.
Sherry Bowers Vandehey Sorry to hear that...but you might want to take a look at this link to a forum about other cancer patients experiencing burning/numb extremities and severe leg cramps after stopping chemo, it might be useful

http://csn.cancer.org/node/203214
Kathy Chamberlain I haven't read this but was going to mention they used to give an antidepressant (then elavil) to help with the neuralgia (numbness, pain) . . in extremities. You may already be on one.
Sherry Bowers Vandehey Or neuortin, I think that's how you spell it.
Monte Muirhead Thanks Sherry! I was only off my infusion chemo for about three weeks, before I started the chemo pill...so I'm not sure how my leg cramps could be connected to being off chemo. And, as I mentioned, the burning fingers began shortly after I started the chemo pill. Hopefully, my oncologist can help me sort through it today.

Douglas Muirhead That IS the question Monte... Quantity vs Quality... I, like you, would chose the latter.
Lynda Clark Lose the existing chemo drug - try a different one.
Maureen Bergman My mom chose quality.....it gave her another 33 months......I continue to uphold you, Monte.
Pat Scarsella Sweetheart. You do what is best for yourself and live the life you can without pain. Keep the faith and you have lots of prayers coming from so many people that love you.
Billy Russo I think of you all the time.
Gail Ann Stephens I wish I could say or do something of importance. I do think of you often! Life decisions are the hardest. I know my mom loved you and is watching over you from above! I love you also!
Patti Maltbie Cook Sending prayers
Jody Denn I'm praying for wisdom for you & your doctor.
Emma Stutzman Abeln Sending prayers to you monte
Kathy Farnsworth Wish I could be there to help.
Joann Coe My thoughts and prayers to you, Monte.
Tim Joyce Sending good vibes.
Maybelle Minter Have you had pain patches to help control pain? I cared for a dear friend who suffered so much with cancer, and we werre able to hel her with pain patches. Daily you are on my prayer list. I know you will make right decisions.
Monte Muirhead I;m not on pain patches right now...only low to moderate doses of oxycodone. I think you might be referring to fentanyl patches?, which is what my Mom was on. I want to talk with my doctor about pain relief, because I'm not sure how far I want to go. In other words, I don't want to take so much that I'm asleep all day.

    Tamme Taylor Thornton Excellent news!
Mary Esther Hart Faith moves mountains
David Quigley Monte...was the oral medication you were taking xeloda...It caused my extremities..(fingers and especially soles of my feet) to get really sore. And It slowly went away when I was on the off period between med sessions (14 days on 7 days off...these varied a bit) I am wondering if in your highly medicated and weakened state if you are not having an extreme reaction to the drug..
Monte Muirhead I am on Stivarga...21 days on, 7 days off. My oncologist did not believe it was causing my finger rash, because my rash was delineated, and not all one color throughout the finger. He called in a second oncologist to look at my finger, who was also mystified as to what was the cause of the discoloration.
