HAPPY 87th BIRTHDAY MOM !!!

Tomorrow will be one month since you left us. I still miss you very much and I always will.
Today, I'm going to go off my sugar-free/starch-free diet and have the pleasure of eating one of your favorite foods that you enjoyed in recent years: crab puffs at Asia Garden in Roseburg. smile emoticon
Michelle and her mother at the restaurant seemed stunned when I told them you had passed away...I almost felt like they would experience your loss as much as I do! Me and you last ate there on October 1st. I remember the date, because it was same day as the U.C.C. shooting, and one of the waitresses's daughter had been shot.
Now that I'm no longer focused on helping to look after you, my next project to pursue will be getting a headstone for you at the Kellogg Cemetery.
I will always love you, mama, and I look forward to seeing you again one day. smile emoticon

I found this beautiful photo at my mom's that I had never seen before. It is the summer of 1947 and she is 19, the one on the far right. Standing next to her is her friend, Barbara, along with Mom's sister, Doris, and Doris' husband, Eugene.

Monte Muirhead I just talked with Aunt Doris. She says the photo was taken around the time of a road trip to California. Mom was getting ready to enter Biola at Los Angeles. Grandpa Holcomb (Eugene Holcomb's father) thought it would be best if kinfolk could help accompany Lucille off to college. So Doris and Eugene Holcomb, Mom, Mom's friend Barbara Bullock, and another lady, drove down to Mount Herman in the Bay Area. There was someone else down in the Bay Area who could take Lucille the rest of the way to Biola. On an unrelated note, I remember Mom talking about coming back from Biola (for Christmas?) on the bus and going through Klamath Falls, which was blanketed with snow at the time. I don't think Mom ever went back to Klamath Falls, but she talked about how pretty the city was.

Went to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, after dying from age-related causes at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg. She had the pleasure of eating her favorite foods, mashed potatoes and gravy, as part of Monday’s lunch, the last meal that she had.

Lucille Jerene Hatcher was born December 31, 1928, in her grandparents’ house at Marshfield, where the Empire District of Coos Bay is now located. She was born a few hours early from being the New Year’s baby in Coos County, who wasn’t born until several days later.

Lucille spent her early years living on the family dairy farm at Fairview, east of Coquille. She was a witness to the infamous Bandon fire, which came close to their farm. Because of smoke in the air, Lucille had to release their plow horses “Danny” and “Vinny” from the barn.

The Great Depression forced the Hatcher family to leave the farm and move to Roseburg. Lucille attended junior high school where the former downtown Safeway store was located. She graduated from Elkton High School and then attended Biola University at its original location in downtown Los Angeles. While there, Lucille attended one of Billy Graham’s first crusades, when Graham, Cliff Barrows, and George Beverly Shea held a nearby revival under a big tent. While at Biola, the female students were told to always carry a Bible with them in public, because a visible Bible back then would presumably protect women from muggers and other wrong-doers.

At Biola, Lucille met Hoyt Esmond, and in 1949, they married at Roseburg’s First Conservative Baptist Church at its first location inside the old downtown Roseburg Armory. They were planning to become missionaries to India, but an illness kept Hoyt from going to that country. Their son David was born 13 days before Hoyt passed away.

In 1952, Lucille married Doug Jones, who was Douglas County’s only predator/animal control officer at the time. The couple had three daughters and moved toTillamook County when Doug obtained employment there.

In 1962, Lucille married Milo Muirhead and the couple settled in Oakland where they welcomed a daughter and son. Lucillle loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking her family to the coast, where they purchased crabs at the Seafood Grotto in Winchester Bay and took them to the beach to eat. She also enjoyed helping her children with various school projects, whether it involved cooking a dish for a special function or driving her kids to different school events.

Lucille was one of the last surviving charter members of First Conservative Baptist Church (now Wellspring) in Roseburg, and most recently a member of Grace Community Baptist Church in Sutherlin. Her love of the Lord led her to become a Sunday school teacher in her early years, and she later hosted Good News Clubs in her home. She was also a past member of the Fair Oaks and Kellogg Granges.

Lucille is survived by her two siblings, Howard Hatcher (wife Alna) of Oakland and Doris Holcomb (husband Eugene) of Elkton; and her six children who all live in Oregon: David Esmond (wife Karen) of Oakland, Darlene Jones of Tillamook, Lynda Clark of Beaver, Melody Rushing of Roseburg, Laurie Quigley (husband Dave) of Creswell, and Monte Muirhead of Oakland.

She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren: Sherry (Scott) Vandehey and their children Ashley, Alysse, Christopher, Brooklyn, and Nicholas; Christopher Bowers; Michelle (Cory) Esmond-Vallotton and their children Kaira and Alyria; Jimmy Esmond; Colin (Brittany) Clark and their children Catie and Vincent; Michael (Dorie) Rushing and their children Samantha, Shawn, and Jacob; Lindsey Quigley; and Parker Quigley.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Wellspring Bible Fellowship, 2245 NW Kline Street, Roseburg, at noon, with a graveside service to follow at approximately 2 p.m., at the Kellogg Cemetery. AIM Missionary Ron Holcomb, Lucille’s nephew, and Gordon Moritz, retired American Missionary Fellowship, will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to both events.

I'm normally not as interested in bearded dragons as I am, say, snakes. But I thought this photo did indeed show a "cute" bearded dragon, which is why I decided to post this Facebook photo on my blog site.International Reptile Rescue has done a lot to retrieve and help abandoned and abused reptiles, so I'll do anything that I can to promote this non-profit organization based in Oregon. They sure came to my rescue when I needed someone to care for my pet red-tail boa, Jelani, during my surgery in Seattle.

Animals needing rescue unfortunately don't wait for convenient times so no Christmas eve, eve for this rescuer but for getting this little cutie bearded dragon.
Just look at that sweet face looking up.
She's a bit thin but with plenty of food and lots of TLC she should be just fine.
If your a follower of any length of time you'll notice trends.
The past couple of months its been leopard geckos, bearded dragons and turtles, turtles and more turtles....

Lacey LaDuke I am seeing tons of needy Sulcata's - I assume it's because they aren't easy to house indoors in Oregon in the winter. Poor babies.

International Reptile Rescue, formerly Hart's Reptile World Yep, the love affair with Sulcata's is usually over at around 10 pounds!!!
Truly sad, breeders should be ashamed as they know few will live due to neglect.
Nothing more than greed at overbreeding.

Patricia Curren I have my 50 pound sulcata in the house for the winter. He has a corner in my kitchen for meals and night time and walks around the house during the day. He makes a big mess when he goes to the bathroom but I feel better knowing he is toasty warm. Plus I think I likes the scratches and rubs all day
